Edmontonians want an environmentally sustainable city that is more compact with complete communities that reduce our environmental footprint.
How well do Edmonton’s current people services promote and support environmental sustainability?
What should be done differently in the provision of people services to help to achieve environmental sustainability?

1Unfortunately in a climate like ours and in the way the City was laid out in grid formation while expanding to the skirts of the city limits we are very transportation dependent on vehicles.
The first recommendation would be to encourage the use of the LRT...if you can use it. Then public transit, but the city has to become more organized and better managed. Secondly encourage, at least when the weather gets warmer alternative modes of transportation with the assistance of the City to do the encouraging.
Thirdly, increase the use of car pooling even to combining the lanes buses uses to accomodating carpools.
any other ideas?

1I agree that we need to push public transit (especially the LRT) I just wish our system could be a bit more efficient. I also feel that less urban sprawl would be helpful in reducing our environmental footprint. Growing up instead of out.

0I think that the first thing the City needs to do to promote a more sustainable city that is more compact with complete communities that reduce our environmental footprint is reinstate smart growth, in-fill housing and intensification of existing neighbourhoods into the municipal development plan. I don't know how you achieve a more compact city without that.
